The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Unit is conducting a fatality crash investigation in the 4500 block of Sunset Road. On Saturday July 6th, 2019 at 1801 hours, North Division officers responded to a three-vehicle crash. Upon officers' arrival, they located a 4-door Lexus sedan and 2 motorcycles that had collided in front of 4525 Sunset Road. MEDIC and Charlotte Fire Department arrived on the scene and transported both motorcycle riders to Atrium Health Main. The driver of the sedan was uninjured and remained on the scene.
Members of the DWI Task Force and Crime Scene Investigation were called to conducti the investigation. It was determined that the motorcycle riders were traveling west on Sunset Road when the sedan pulled out of a convenient store and started traveling west on Sunset Road. As the sedan slowed to pull into another business, the motorcycles ran into the back of the sedan. The driver of the sedan immediately pulled over and called 911.
On 09/09/2019 the driver of one of the motorcycles succumbed to his injuries sustained in the crash. Speed is suspected as a contributing factor for the collision. Next of Kin notification has been made.
