On December 27, 2018, at 4:42 p.m., North Division officers responded to a reported head on collision in the 10200 block of Statesville Road. Iredell County EMS responded and pronounced one driver deceased on scene and transported the other driver to Atrium Health with life threatening injuries.
Members of the Major Crash Investigations Unit and DWI Task Force responded to investigate the incident. The preliminary investigation indicates that a black 2012 Honda CRV was traveling south on Statesville Road when it traveled left of center directly into the path of a silver 2014 Infiniti Q50 traveling north. The Infiniti swerved right and partially off the roadway to avoid the crash, but was still struck by the Honda. The Honda came to rest in the northbound lane of the roadway, and the Infiniti was spun around and off the roadway to the east.
Neither alcohol use nor speed are believed to be factors for the deceased driver of the Infiniti.
Excessive speed is not believed to be a factor for the driver of the Honda, and impairment is undetermined at this time. The driver of the Honda is still listed in critical condition.
This investigation is ongoing.
This crash is being investigated by the CMPD Major Crash Investigations Unit. Any witnesses to the crash, or anyone with information concerning the crash, should contact Officer M.R. Pressley at (704) 432-2169 or Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600.
