Wednesday, April 11, 2018,

On Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at 12:04 p.m., Metro Division officers responded to the 1200 block of Effingham Road in reference to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service.  Upon arrival, officers located a male and a pregnant female with apparent gunshot wounds.  Medic transported both victims to Carolinas Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.  After speaking with witnesses on scene, officers determined that the two victims were on Alice Street when the shooting occurred and ran to Effingham Road to seek assistance.  Officers were able to get a description of the suspects and suspect vehicle and bolo'd that information to surrounding divisions.

A short time later, the WSOC-TV helicopter noticed a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect vehicle driving erratically.  WSOC-TV notified CMPD Communications of the location and officers began to search for the car.  The occupied suspect vehicle was located in the Hickory Grove Division and the CMPD Aviation Unit was able to follow that vehicle while patrol units monitored their location.  Officers were able to get behind the suspect vehicle near Brookshire and I-85 and they attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver refused to pull over and a vehicle pursuit ensued.  Officers pursued the vehicle on I-85 South which led them into Gaston County.  The occupants of the suspect vehicle jumped and ran near the McAdenville Exit and were taken into custody with the assistance of the K9 Unit.  During the pursuit and subsequent foot chase, CMPD officers were assisted by members from the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Belmont Police Department, and the Lowell Police Department.

The occupants of the vehicle, who were later identified as Reco Lamont Perry, DOB: 01/01/1996 and Tahjah Adarrious Quarles, DOB: 06/27/1995, were transported to the Metro Division team office where they were interviewed by division detectives.

At the conclusion of the interview, Perry and Quarles were each charged with two counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, Felony Conspiracy, Battery of an Unborn Child, and Resisting Arrest.  Detectives determined that Perry was the driver during the vehicle pursuit and additional charges will be filed.  They also confirmed that the victims and suspects in this case were known to one another.
