On Friday, July 6, 2018 at 9:50 a.m., officers with the Metro Division responded to an injury crash at the intersection of North Graham Street and Keswick Avenue. CFD and MEDIC responded as well. Upon arrival, officers located a 2004 Chrysler Sebring and a CMPD Dual Sport Motorcycle involved in the crash. The officer riding the motorcycle was transported to Carolinas Medical Center-Main with serious injuries. The driver of the Chrysler was assessed on scene by MEDIC and was not injured.
The CMPD Major Crash Investigation Unit responded to conduct an investigation. The preliminary investigation shows that Lamonda Sloan was driving the Chrysler. She was attempting to make a left turn from Keswick Avenue onto southbound North Graham Street. Officer Homan was traveling northbound on North Graham Street in the inside lane. A semi-truck with trailer was stopped in the outside lane of North Graham Street just prior to Keswick Avenue due to that lane being closed for construction. The driver of the truck was waiting to change lanes. Lamonda Sloan initiated the left turn onto North Graham Street into the path of the motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the left front of the Chrysler and the motorcycle and officer went airborne. Both the driver of the Chrysler and semi-truck were interviewed at the scene by detectives.
Lamonda Sloan was charged with Driving While License Revoked, Fictitious Registration Plate, No Liability Insurance, Failure to Yield Right-of-Way, and Unsafe Movement. She was arrested and transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office. Officer Homan is being treated at CMC-Main for non-life threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact Detective Bush at 704-432-2169.
