On July 25, 2018, officers with the Metro Division responded to a missing person call for service in the 100 block of S. Smallwood Place.  The reporting person advised officers that her boyfriend, Eric Spells, DOB: 08/16/1989, had been missing since the night prior and had not shown up to work that day after an argument with their roommate, Dwayne Bryan Evans.

When officers arrived at the residence they discovered evidence indicating that a crime had occurred.  Officers requested assistance from the Missing Person and Homicide Units, who responded to the scene.  The Crime Scene Unit also responded to the scene and collected evidence.

Information developed during the course of the investigation confirmed that Evans had murdered Spells during the argument.  Evans then disposed of Spells, with assistance from Palmer and Scott.

Homicide Detectives requested the assistance of the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, who located all three suspects in Concord, NC.  Evans and Palmer were arrested on outstanding warrants and transported to police headquarters where they were interviewed.  Scott was voluntarily transported to headquarters where she was also interviewed.  At the conclusion of the interviews, Scott was also arrested and charged.  Evans, Palmer and Scott were then transported to the Mecklenburg County Sherriff's Office.

Evans has been charged with Murder.  Palmer and Scott have both been charged with Accessory After the Fact – Murder.

At this time the Spells body has not been located.  CMPD's Homicide Unit is searching for the victim in York County with the assistance of the York County Sheriff's Office and FBI-Charlotte.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.  As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.
