Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide/ADW Unit are conducting a homicide investigation at the 2400 block of 28th Street in the Metro Division. The call for service came in at 5:17 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2019.
Metro Division Officers responded to a report that an individual was shot in a vehicle on 28th Street. Upon their arrival, officers located an adult female inside a vehicle that had been shot. The vehicle she was driving had wrecked on 28th Street just east of N. Tryon Street. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by Medic. The victim has been identified as Kendal Ryan Crank, DOB: 6/11/1991.
The initial investigation has revealed that the victim was traveling in her vehicle eastbound on 28th street at N. Tryon when she was shot. Witnesses have reported that several male subjects were shooting at each other near the intersection at the time. It appears that the victim was not the intended target. At 5:40 p.m., a male victim walked into CMC-Main Hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his arm. Detectives are looking into the possibility that this victim was also struck by gunfire during the incident.
Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives of the Homicide Unit, Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team and Victim Services also responded to the scene.
This is an ongoing, active investigation. As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.
