***UPDATE*** Metro Division - Homicide in the 200 block of Matheson Avenue

Case Update: Saturday, February 23, 2019,

The victim has been identified as Otis Lucas Jr., DOB 06/11/1976. His family has been notified of his death. Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Marchell Michelle Bright-Walters, DOB 6/3/1971 with Voluntary Manslaughter. 

Bright-Walters was transported to police headquarters where she was interviewed and then subsequently transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with voluntary manslaughter.

This is an ongoing and active investigation.  As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Saturday, February 23, 2019,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 200 block of Matheson Avenue in the Metro Division.  The call for service came in at 12:15 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2019. 

Metro Division patrol officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service.  Upon arrival, officers located a male with an apparent gunshot wound on the side of the road.  The victim was pronounced deceased on scene.  His name will be released once his family has been notified.

Homicide Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any witnesses to this incident. 

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services and Operations Command responded to the scene.
