Metro Division - Homicide in the 1500 block of Catherine Simmons Avenue

Case update: Monday, April 29, 2019

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit has charged Anthony Qashawn Walker, DOB: 08/26/1992, for the murder of Daimeon Terrell Johnson.

As a result of continued investigation into this case, Walker was identified as a suspect.  Walker was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was interviewed by Homicide Unit detectives.  At the conclusion of the interview, Walker was transported to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with murder.

The investigation into this incident is active and ongoing.  As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office.

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation near the 1500 block of Catherine Simmons Avenue, which is in the Metro Division.  The call for service came in at approximately 12:57 p.m.

Metro Division officers responded near the 1500 block of Catherine Simmons Avenue to reports of a shooting.  When they arrived, they located an adult male with an apparent gunshot wound.  MEDIC transported the victim to Atrium Health's Carolina's Medical Center where he has since been pronounced deceased.  He has been identified as Daimeon Terrell Johnson, DOB: 3/11/79.

CMPD's Canine Unit responded to the scene to assist, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives from Operations Command also responded to the scene.

The investigation into this incident is active and ongoing.  As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office.
