***UPDATE*** Metro Division - Homicide in the 1400 block of West Trade Street

Case Update:  Saturday, August 24, 2019

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit has charged Algia Montaze Clark Jr., DOB: 12/12/1997, for the murder of A'mari McCaskill.

As a result of continued investigation, Clark was identified as a suspect and warrants were issued for his arrest.  On August 24, 2019, detectives with the CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) and Hickory Grove Division officers located and arrested Clark without incident.  He was interviewed by Homicide Unit detectives and has since been transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office where he has been charged with murder and possession of a firearm by felon.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.  As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office.

The victim in this case has been identified as A'mari McCaskill, DOB: 02/27/1999His family has been notified of his death.

Tuesday, August 20, 2019

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a shooting investigation in the 1400 block of West Trade Street in the Metro Division.  The call for service came in at 4:38 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2019. 

Metro Division Officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service.  Upon arrival, officers located a male with an apparent gunshot wound.  The victim was transported by Medic to Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center with a life threatening injury.

Detectives with the Homicide Unit responded to the scene and are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any additional witnesses to this incident. 

Crime Scene Search has responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Medic, CFD and Operations Command responded to the scene.
