The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Unit is conducting a fatality crash investigation in the 3600 block of Brookshire Boulevard in the Metro Division. On Sunday, September 15, 2019 at 1:00 a.m., Metro Division officers responded to an accident with injury call for service. Upon officer's arrival, they located a black male lying in the roadway. The male had been struck by a Ford Focus. MEDIC and Charlotte Fire Department arrived on the scene and transported the male to Atrium Heath Center main. The male was pronounced deceased at 2:54 a.m. The driver and vehicle both remained on the scene.
Members of the Major Crash Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Investigation were called to conduct the investigation. It was determined that the pedestrian was walking north on Honeywood Avenue and attempted to cross Brookshire Boulevard when he darted out in front of the Ford. The Ford was traveling east on Brookshire Boulevard and the driver pulled over to the right and stopped. The pedestrian was wearing dark colored clothing at the time of the crash. The area is illuminated by street lights and this portion of Brookshire Boulevard is not marked or controlled for pedestrian crossing.
Speed and alcohol use is not suspected as a contributing factor for the driver. It is unknown if the pedestrian was impaired.
The driver Ms. Prasai only possessed a North Carolina Leaners Permit and did not have a licensed driver accompanying her in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Ms. Prasai was cited of this violation.
