On Sunday, July 14, 2019 at 2:41 a.m., Metro and Central Division officers responded to a single vehicle crash at 1880 Brookshire Boulevard in the Metro Division where one occupant was pronounced deceased on scene.

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Unit, DWI Task Force Officer, and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to conduct the investigation.

Their initial investigation has revealed that a 2019 Audi Q5 was being driven at a high rate of speed northwest on Brookshire Boulevard when it left the roadway to the left, entered the grass median and flipped. The Audi was occupied by a driver and three passengers none of which were wearing seatbelts. All occupants were ejected. One occupant was pronounced deceased on scene by Medic. The remaining occupants were transported to Atrium Health's Carolina's Medical Center, two of which are in critical condition.

Excessive speed is a contributing factor to this crash and drug use is suspected.

This crash remains under investigation. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office.
