***UPDATE*** Metro Division - Double homicide in the 600 block of Grandin Road

Case Update: Friday, March 1, 2019

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit has charged Furqan Grice, DOB: 12/30/2000, and Anthony Goodson, DOB: 05/02/2000, for their involvement in the murders of both Ibn Marshall and Anu'bius Smith.

As a result of continued investigation into this case, Homicide Detectives identified Grice and Goodson as suspects and obtained warrants for their arrest.  On February 28, 2019, Homicide Detectives arrested and interviewed Grice.  At the conclusion of this interview, Grice was transported to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with murder.  This morning, March 1, 2019, Goodson was arrested by CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) and is being interviewed by Homicide detectives.

Case Update: Thursday, February 28, 2019

The deceased victims in this case have been identified as Ibn Marshall, DOB: 6/1/2001 and Anu'bius Smith, DOB 6/21/2000.  Their next of kin have been notified of their deaths.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.  As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Wednesday, February 27, 2019

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation located in the 600 block of Grandin Road in the Metro Division.  The call for service came in at 9:10 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27, 2019. 

Metro Division Officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service.  Upon their arrival, officers located a male with apparent gunshot wounds in the parking lot located at 1432 W. Morehead Street.   Two (2) other male victims were located in a vehicle approximately two (2)  blocks away in the 600 block of Grandin Road.  All three (3) victims were transported to the hospital by MEDIC.  Two (2) victims have been pronounced deceased by hospital staff.

The initial investigation has revealed that all three (3) victims were shot in the 600 block of Grandin Street, two (2)  remained inside the vehicle while the third victim ran to the parking lot down the street.

Two (2) firearms and some marijuana have been located and seized at the crime scene.

Homicide Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any witnesses to this incident. 

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team and Operations Command responded to the scene.
