Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, June 7, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Sexual Assault Unit have charged Kyle Harris, DOB: 07/02/1992, for a sexual assault that occurred at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office's Jail Central (801 East 4th Street).
On May 20, 2021, detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Sexual Assault Unit began conducting an investigation into a sexual assault where the suspect, a detention officer for the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, sexually assaulted the victim, who was in custody at the time of the incident. Evidence collected identified Harris as a suspect, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On June 7, 2021, Harris was located and arrested. He has since been transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, where he is charged with three counts of 2nd Degree Sex Offense, Attempted 2nd Degree Sex Offense, two counts of Sexual Battery, and Sexual Assault by Custodian.
