Mayor Celebrates International Contributions and Philanthropy

Charlotte, NC — Mayor Vi Alexander Lyles will present the 21st annual Mayor's International Community Awards (MICA) on Thursday, May 3, 2018, 6:00 p.m. at the Booth Playhouse. MICA recognizes the corporate philanthropy of three foreign-owned firms and internationally focused contributions of individuals in the Charlotte region.

The ceremony includes cultural performances and a presentation by Heiner Dornburg, Managing Director, groninger USA, LLC: Empowerment through Modern Manufacturing Apprenticeships in Charlotte.

This year, Manny and Tracie Ohonme will be recognized with the Richard Vinroot International Achievement Award for their international humanitarian work and founding of Samaritan's Feet. Their work and ministry as leaders of Samaritan's Feet International has transformed the international perspective an​d commitment of our city's business leaders and brought hope to hundreds of thousands of children around the world.

Chef Charles Sémail will be presented with the CIC International Entrepreneur Award. Sémail is an avid supporter of the French community in Charlotte and dedicated to sharing his knowledge as a part of Piedmont Culinary Guild, promoting healthier food habits with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.

The Global Leader Award will be presented to Najam and Farah Usmani for their service and commitment to philanthropic activities which support education and uplift women, including the creation of the "Champ Camp" which provides business insight to high school and college students as they pursue their individual dreams.

MICA is hosted by the Charlotte International Cabinet as a collaborative program with the City of Charlotte's Office of the Mayor and Department of Economic Development. More information can be obtained by visiting
