On Monday, January 16, 2023, at approximately 6:15 p.m., officers in the Eastway Division responded to a stranger kidnapping call for service. A caller advised officers that her vehicle was stolen with her 4-year-old child inside. Officers attempted to stop the stolen vehicle. The driver refused to stop, initiating a pursuit.
Shortly after 7 p.m., the stolen vehicle crashed at North Graham Street and Rumple Road. Both suspects, ages 14 and 15, were arrested and taken into custody. The 4-year-old victim was located in the vehicle unharmed.
Eastway detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Officers from multiple patrol divisions assisted with the search and apprehension efforts. Representatives from CMPD's Operations Command, the Aviation Unit, and the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) also assisted.
