***UPDATE*** Independence Division - Homicide in the 9200 block of Clifton Meadow Drive

Case Update: Thursday, June 20, 2019

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Tadaran Jaquan McDonald, DOB: 08/25/1997, for his involvement in the murder of Kenneth Armstrong.

Due to information about a suspect vehicle gathered by responding officers, the suspect vehicle was located and a traffic stop was made on the vehicle.  An occupant of the vehicle was arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was interviewed by Homicide Unit detectives.  At the conclusion of the interview, McDonald was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with murder.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.  As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office.

The victim in this case has been identified as Kenneth Armstrong, DOB: 03/07/1997.  His family has been notified of his death.

Wednesday, June 19, 2019

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 9200 block of Clifton Meadow Drive, which is in the Independence Division.  The call for service came in at 7:24 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2019. 

Officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service at a public neighborhood pool located at the intersection of Clifton Meadow Drive and Twin Falls Lane.  The caller advised that the victim left the scene in a vehicle driven by another person.  At 7:38p.m., 911 received a call from Staff at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center located at 1500 Matthews Township Parkway regarding a male who had arrived at their hospital.  A short time later the victim was pronounced deceased.

Detectives with the Homicide Unit responded to the scene and are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any additional witnesses to this incident.

Crime Scene Search has responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services, RTCC, Medic, CFD and Operations Command responded to the scene.
