Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, January 28, 2020) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are working with CMPD's Crimes Against Children Unit to conduct a homicide investigation into the death of a five-month-old infant.
On January 14, 2020, Peyton Taylor, DOB: 08/10/2019, was admitted to Atrium Health Levine Children's Hospital with signs of abusive head trauma. CMPD's Crimes Against Children Unit was notified and began conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the injury. On January 17, 2020, detectives received information from medical professionals that the injury to the infant was not survivable, and CMPD's Homicide Unit joined the investigation. On January 22, 2020, the infant succumbed to his injuries. Quandeel Taylor, DOB: 02/11/1995, who is the victim's father, was identified as a suspect, and was arrested on January 28, 2020. Quandeel Taylor was interviewed by Homicide Unit detectives and subsequently transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office where he has been charged with murder. The location of the original incident occurred in the 2300 block of North Sharon Amity Road.
