Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, March 3, 2020) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation after a deceased, adult male was located near the 1600 block of Sardis Road North, which is in the Independence Division.
On March 1, 2020, at around 12:00 p.m., officers responded to a check-the-welfare call for service near the 1600 block of Sardis Road North. When officers arrived, they located an adult male in a creek in the woods near the aforementioned location, and the victim was pronounced deceased on scene. Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.
As a result of continued investigation, the victim was identified as Van Thien Huynh, DOB: 12/28/1964. He had been reported missing on February 29, 2020, at around 4:50 p.m. (report number: 20200229-1649-02). Detectives also determined the victim had sustained a gunshot wound. Detectives were able to identify a suspect, and warrants were issued for his arrest. On March 3, 2020, Anthony Huynh, DOB: 07/02/1998, was arrested for the murder of Van Thien Huynh. The victim and suspect are relatives.
