Independence Division - Hit and Run fatality in the 8400 block of Monroe Road

The pedestrian victim involved in this crash succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased on October 25, 2019 at Atrium Health Carolina's Center. Her family has been notified of her death.

Case Update: Thursday, October 24, 2019

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Unit have charged Jasmine Kelly, DOB: 02/04/2000, for her involvement in this case.

During the investigation, detectives were able to identify the driver of the 2005 Infiniti G35 as Jasmine Kelly.  Detectives made contact with Jasmine Kelly on Thursday, October 24, 2019 and she voluntarily came to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Law Enforcement Center to be interviewed by Major Crash Detectives.  After the interview was completed, Kelly was charged with felony hit and run and filing a false police report due to reporting her vehicle stolen after the incident.

The victim has been identified as Shannon Lynch, DOB: 03/06/1984.  She remains in the hospital with life threatening injuries.   

This crash remains under investigation. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit is conducting an investigation into a hit and run motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian that occurred on October 23, 2019.  The call for service came in at 7:54 p.m.

Independence Division Officers responded to reports of a hit and run located near the 8400 block of Monroe Road.  Members of the Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene.  When officers arrived, they located a female pedestrian on the sidewalk with life-threatening injuries.  The pedestrian was transported by MEDIC to Atrium Health's Carolina's Medical Center – Main. 

Officers with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force, Motor Unit and Crime Scene Search were called to the scene to conduct an investigation.  Witness statements and evidence collected at the scene indicates that a red Infinity G35 was traveling Northwest on Monroe Road in the right lane when it struck a pedestrian who was crossing the road.  The red Infinity G35 failed to stop and remain at the scene and was last seen turning right onto Village Lake Drive.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Major Crash Investigation Unit is actively searching for the involved vehicle.
