Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, September 16, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit are conducting a fatal motor vehicle collision in the Freedom Division.
On Wednesday, September 15, 2021, at 10:58 p.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle collision with injury at the intersection of Hovis Road and Northern Drive. Members of the Charlotte Fire Department and Medic also responded to the scene as well due to injuries. When officers arrived, they located two vehicles - a Kawasaki motorcycle with front-end damage and a Freightliner tractor with a trailer attached to it. The driver of the Freightliner was located on the scene of the crash with no injuries, while the driver of the motorcycle was located on the roadway with serious injuries. Upon Medic's arrival, the driver of the motorcycle, identified as Jeremy Caine Green, DOB: 04/02/1980, was pronounced deceased due to injuries he sustained from the crash.
Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, officers with the Motor Unit, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to investigate. The initial investigation revealed that the Freightliner, driven by Scotty Culbertson, DOB: 12/14/1987, was stopped on Northern Drive at Hovis Road, attempting to make a left turn onto Hovis Road. While trying to make the left turn, the Freightliner crossed into the path of the motorcycle. The motorcycle collided with the driver-side front tire of the Freightliner.
Impairment and speed are suspected as contributing factors to this crash.
