Homicide/ADW Unit Detectives investigating a homicide in the Central Division

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide/ADW Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 300 block of E. 3rd Street in the Central Division. The call for service came in at 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, February 07, 2016.

Central Division patrol officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service. Upon arrival officers located a male victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The male was pronounced deceased on scene by Medic and identified as Clavis Jamon Reliford, DOB: 07/07/1986. His family has been notified of his death.

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Homicide Prosecution Team, Anti-Crime Unit and the Real Time Crime Center also responded to the scene.

Information and evidence gathered during the course of the investigation led Homicide/ADW Detectives in identifying Labaron Jerrail McCain, DOB: 08/04/1986, as the suspect in this case.

McCain was located and voluntarily transported to police headquarters where he was interviewed by Homicide/ADW Detectives. At the conclusion of the interview McCain was arrested and charged with Murder and Possession of a Firearm by Felon. He is currently in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.

This is an ongoing, active investigation. As new information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.
