Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Westover Division--Aug 22, 2021

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, August 23, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Shamika Rashawn Simmons, DOB: 02/19/1993, for the Murder of Matthew Simmons.

 

As a result of continued investigation, Simmons was identified as a suspect in this case, and warrants were issued for her arrest. On August 23, 2021, CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located Simmons, arrested her without incident and transported her to the LEC to be interviewed by Homicide Detectives.  Following an interview,  Simmons was transported to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with 1st-degree Murder.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, August 22, 2021) - Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation near the 2000 block of Brooksvale Street in the Westover Division.

 

At about 11:17 pm on August 21, 2021, officers responded to an assault with deadly weapon call for service in the 2000 block of Brooksvale Street. Upon arrival, officers located one victim with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by medic.

 

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, CMPD's Operations Command, Victim Services, and CFD also assisted.
