Homicide Investigation in the Providence Division

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation near the 4400 block of Randolph Road in the Providence Division.

On July 24, 2022, Providence Division officers responded to the 4400 block of Randolph Road in reference to an assault call for service.  The victim, Corey Black (DOB 06/28/1962), was transported to Atrium Main with a head injury. On November 5, 2022, Mr. Black was pronounced deceased due to the injuries sustained in the assault. Mr. Black's family has been notified of his death. The case has transitioned from Providence Division detectives to Homicide Division detectives and is being investigated as a Homicide.


The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective.
