Homicide Investigation in the Metro Division - July 26, 2021

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, July 26, 2021) – The victim in this case has been identified as Damontae Austin, DOB: 07/10/2003.  His family has been notified of his death.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, July 26, 2021) - Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation near the 3000 block of Avalon Avenue in the Metro Division.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. on July 26, 2021, officers responded to a call for service of a gunshot victim arriving at Atrium Main.  The victim was transported by a personal vehicle and pronounced deceased upon arrival. During the investigation officers discovered the shooting took place in the 3000 block of Avalon Avenue. Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives from the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, CMPD's Operations Command, Victim's Assistance, CFD and MEDIC also assisted.
