Homicide Investigation in the Independence Division - January 25, 2021

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, August 5, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have classified this case as a justified homicide. The Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office has consulted with CMPD's Homicide Unit and concurs with the detectives' decision not to charge anyone in this case.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, January 26, 2021) – The deceased in this case has been identified as Jonathan Robinson, DOB: 10/22/1987. His family has been notified of his death.

Jamell Robinson, DOB: 07/21/1981, is the second subject who self-transported to the hospital for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.  After he was treated and released from the hospital, Jamell Robinson was interviewed by Homicide Unit detectives.  At the conclusion of the interview, Jamell Robinson was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with felony breaking and entering and shooting into an occupied dwelling.  Homicide Unit detectives are not looking for any additional suspects in this case.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, January 25, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation that occurred near the 7500 block of Creekridge Road in the Independence Division.

Shortly after 10:30 a.m. on January 25, 2021, officers responded to reports of a shooting near the 7500 block of Creekridge Road.  When officers arrived, they located a witness and evidence of a shooting; however, no one on scene was located injured.  Shortly after this, officers received information indicating two people arrived at a nearby hospital with apparent gunshot wounds.  One of these two subjects has been pronounced deceased by hospital staff, and the other subject has non-life-threatening injuries.

CMPD's Homicide Unit detectives responded to conduct the investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives from the CMPD's Operations Command, Victim Services and Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office also assisted.  At this time, homicide detectives are not currently looking for any suspects.
