Homicide Investigation in the Central Division - 2/12/2022


Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, February 12, 2022) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation near the 500 block of West Trade Streets in the Central Division.

Shortly after 9:30 p.m., on February 11, 2022, officers responded to reports of an assault with a deadly weapon for service near the 500 block of West Trade Street. When they arrived, they located a Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) bus that had traveled off of the roadway. Once officers got to the CATS bus they located the driver with an apparent gunshot wound. The driver was transported by Medic with life-threatening injuries.  The victim was pronounced deceased later at the hospital on Saturday, February 12, 2022. The driver of the bus was Ethan Rivera, DOB 08/30/80.  There were four passengers on the bus who were not injured.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, CMPD's Operations Command, CFD, and Medic also assisted.
