Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Steele Creek Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, May 28, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Tahj Matthias Ji'Reh Wall, DOB: 05/03/1998, for the murder of Curtis Hopper, who is the victim in this case.  His family has been notified of his death. 

From information and evidence gathered, Homicide Unit detectives identified Wall as a suspect in this case. On May 27, 2021, Wall was interviewed by detectives. Following the interview,  he was placed under arrest and transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.  Wall has been charged with First Degree Murder, Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and Concealing a Death.

As a result of the continued investigation, detectives have also determined that this murder occurred in the 400 block of S. Weldon Street in Gastonia, NC.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, May 27, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation near the 9900 block of Barrands Lane in the Steele Creek Division.

Shortly after 12:18 p.m., on May 27, 2021, officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service near the 9900 block of Barrands Lane. When they arrived, officers located a deceased male victim with apparent signs of traumatic injury.  The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene by the responding officers.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. The Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team also responded.
