Case Update: Homicide Investigation in the Metro Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, October 6, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Donnell Gray, DOB: 04/18/1972, for the murder of Diane Sanders.

As a result of continued investigation, homicide detectives identified Gray as a suspect in this case, and warrants were issued for his arrest.  On October 5, 2021, detectives with CMPD's Homicide Unit, Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT), and Metro Division officers worked together to locate and arrest Gray.  Gray has since been interviewed by detectives and transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, where he has been charged with Murder and Felony Breaking and Entering.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, October 4, 2021) - Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation near the 2000 block of Vinton Street in the Metro Division.

Shortly before 1:00 p.m. on October 4, 2021, officers responded to an assist medic call at the 2000 block of Vinton Street.  When they arrived, officers located an adult female victim with apparent signs of trauma.  The victim was pronounced on scene. 

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives from the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, CMPD's Operations Command, Victim's Assistance, Child Development Community Policing, CFD and Medic also assisted.
