Homicide Investigation in the Metro Division


Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, October 20, 2021) - Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the Metro Division.

Shortly before 12:45 p.m. on October 20, 2021, officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service in the 1400 block of Spring Street.  When they arrived, officers located an adult female victim with an apparent gunshot wound.  The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by Medic. 

From the information provided by witnesses, detectives had reason to believe the suspect was possibly still on the scene. Out of an abundance of caution, the CMPD's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team responded to assist with a search for the suspect, who was determined to have fled the area.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives from the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, CMPD's Operations Command, Victim's Assistance, and CFD also assisted.
