Homicide Investigation in the Independence Division


Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, November 3, 2021) - Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation near the 5300 block of McAlpine Glen Drive.

On November 3, 2021, at approximately 5:00 a.m., officers in the Independence Division responded to the 5300 block of McAlpine Glen Drive in reference to a Larceny from Motor Vehicle call for service.  Shortly after their arrival, officers were alerted to a suspicious person's call for service in the 5100 block of McAlpine Glen Drive.  After responding to that location, officers located a victim who had sustained a gunshot wound.  Medic transported the victim to Atrium Health Main, where they were pronounced deceased from injuries sustained. The victim has been identified as Moises Hernandez, DOB: 08/04/2004. His family has been notified of his death.

Homicide Unit and Independence Division detectives responded to the scene to investigate, while Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  From the information and evidence obtained, Dalton Neel, DOB: 05/20/1995, was identified as a person of interest in this case.  Following an interview with detectives, Neel was arrested and charged with Voluntary Manslaughter.  Neel has since been transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
