***UPDATE*** Hickory Grove Division - Homicide in the 11600 block of Bending Branch Road

Case Update:  Sunday, May 5, 2019

The victim in this case has been identified as Audeja Sutton, DOB 03/26/2000. Her family has been notified of her death.

During the course of the investigation, detectives identified Tylek Hamilton, DOB 04/29/1999 as the suspect. Hamilton was transported to CMPD headquarters and interviewed by detectives. Upon completion of the interview, Hamilton was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with Murder.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.  As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Saturday, May 4, 2019

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation at Bending Branch Road and Denbur Drive in the Hickory Grove Division.  The call for service came in at 9:32 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2019. 

Hickory Grove Division patrol officers responded to an assist medic call for service.  Upon arrival, officers located a female with multiple stab wounds on the side of the road.  Medic transported the victim to the hospital where she was pronounced deceased.  Her name will be released once her family has been notified.

Homicide Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any additional witnesses to this incident. 

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services, K-9, Mobile Crisis, CFD, Medic and Operations Command responded to the scene.
