***UPDATE*** Freedom Division - Homicide in the 4800 block of Brookshire Boulevard

Case Update: Thursday, August 8, 2019

The victim in this case has been identified as Qwanterrius Stafford, DOB: 04/03/2003His family has been notified of his death. Brenna Harris, DOB: 03/12/2002, was transported to the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.      

As a result of continued investigation into this case by the CMPD Homicide Unit and Armed Robbery Unit, Detectives determined that Stafford and Harris entered the 7-Eleven to commit an armed robbery.  During the course of the armed robbery, a wallet was taken from a patron at gunpoint inside the business.  After he was robbed at gunpoint, this patron perceived a lethal threat and pulled a concealed handgun and fired it at both Stafford and Harris.  Two handguns were recovered as evidence from the crime scene.  One gun was determined to be in the possession of Qwanterrius Stafford during the armed robbery.  The other gun was determined to belong to the patron.  Stafford was transported to Atrium Health Carolina's Medical Center from the business and was later pronounced deceased.  Harris fled the business and was later transported to Atrium Health Carolina's Medical Center by medic. Upon release from the hospital, Harris was transported to the police headquarters and was interviewed by Detectives.  At the conclusion of the interview, Harris was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery, and Armed Robbery from Person.

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 4800 block of Brookshire Boulevard in the Freedom Division.  The call for service came in at 3:53 a.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2019. 

Freedom Division Officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service on Brookshire Boulevard.  Upon arrival, officers located a male with a gunshot wound inside of the 7-Eleven.  The victim was transported to Atrium Health Carolina's Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.  A short time later a male showed up in the 1200 block of Saratoga Drive with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.  The deceased victim's identity will be released pending family notification.  At this time, the relationship between the two victims is unknown.

Detectives with the Homicide Unit have responded to the scene to conduct the investigation and are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any additional witnesses to this incident. Detectives are speaking with all individuals involved and are not searching for any suspects.

Crime Scene Search has responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services, Medic, CFD and Operations Command responded to the scene.
