***UPDATE*** Freedom Division - Homicide in the 4000 block of Tuckaseegee Road

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, March 10, 2020) – On March 9, 2020, Briana Stephenson was pronounced deceased by doctors at Atrium Health due to injuries sustained on March 8, 2020.  Her family has been notified of her death.

This case is now being investigated as a homicide. The investigation is active and ongoing.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, March 8, 2020) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are investigating a shooting that occurred at the intersection of Tuckaseegee Road at Freedom Drive, which is in the Metro Division.

On Sunday, March 8, 2020, at around 11:30 a.m., officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service located at the intersection of Tuckaseegee Road and Freedom Drive.  When officers arrived, they located a female victim, Brianna Stephenson, DOB: 11/6/2000, who had been shot. A short time later a second victim was located.  He has been identified as Jaquavious Royster, DOB:1/27/2002.  Medic responded and transported both victims to the hospital.  Brianna Stephenson is being treated for life-threatening injuries while Jaquavious Royster received only minor injuries during the incident.  The initial investigation has revealed that both victims had been inside a Hyundai Sonata and were stopped at the intersection when unknown suspect(s), who were in a separate vehicle, shot at the victims.  The suspect(s) fled the scene and have not been located.   

Homicide Unit detectives responded to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.
