***UPDATE*** Freedom Division - Homicide in the 3000 block of Little Rock Road

Case Update: Tuesday, February 19, 2019,

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department had a press conference this morning concerning efforts into investigating the murder of Melson Kawon Quince.  In this press conference, Major Cameron Selvey asked for the community's help with the investigation.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit determined there were a significant number of party-goers at Club Nikki on the night of Melson Quince's death.  Information that may be helpful in the investigation consists of any photos or videos taken during the time surrounding this incident.  The Homicide Unit has provided the photograph below to aid those who may not have personally known Melson Kawon but would be able to provide information.

The deceased victim in this case has been identified as Melson Kawon Quince, DOB: 3/30/1983.  His family has been notified of his death.

This is an ongoing and active investigation.  As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Monday, February 18, 2019,

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit is conducting a homicide investigation near the 3000 block of Little Rock Road.

Early this morning at approximately 3:45 a.m., officers in the Freedom Division responded to Club Nikki at 3001 Little Rock Road to reports of a disturbance which began inside the establishment.  The disturbance moved to the parking lot and ultimately led to an exchange of gunfire between at least two individuals.  A short time later, a male arrived at a local hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.  Freedom Division detectives responded to investigate this incident and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene.  The report numbers for this incident are 20190218034400.

Later this morning at approximately 8:15 a.m., officers in the Freedom Division responded to a nearby location for an assist MEDIC call.  When they arrived, they located an adult male victim with an apparent gunshot wound.  The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by MEDIC.  The identity of this victim will be released after his family has been notified of his death.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene to conduct the investigation and are working to determine if the two incidents mentioned above are related and if the victim arriving at the hospital was involved or was a by-stander.  Crime Scene Search also responded to process the scene.
