Case Update: Monday, June 3, 2019

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are asking for the public's assistance in solving the murder of Ismael Doumbia.  Mr. Doumbia was fatally shot during an armed robbery at the Shell Gas Station in the 2700 block of Freedom Drive. 

Photographs of the suspect are shown below.  In addition, a video of the suspect is attached to this Media Release.

CMPD Detectives and members of the FBI are working together as part of the FBI Charlotte Violent Crime Task Force. The task force leverages strong law enforcement partnerships, intelligence sharing, resources, and the weight of both state and federal laws to address and mitigate the violent crime threat in our communities. 

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Crime Stoppers offers up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this homicide. Case Update: Monday, June 3, 2019

The victim in this case has been identified as Ismael Doumbia, DOB: 06/06/1968. His family has been notified of his death.

Monday, June 3, 2019

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 2700 block of Freedom Drive in the Metro Division.  The call for service came in at 3:20 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2019. 

Metro Division Officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service on Freedom Drive.  Upon arrival, officers located a male victim with a gunshot wound.  The victim was transported to Atrium Health Carolina's Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.  He was pronounced deceased a short time later at the hospital by medical staff.  The victim's identity will be released pending family notification. 

Detectives with the Homicide Unit have responded to the scene to conduct the investigation and are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any additional witnesses to this incident. 

Initial information gathered at the scene indicates that this was an armed robbery from business where the suspect robbed and shot the employee/victim before fleeing the scene. 

Crime Scene Search has responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services, CFD, Medic and Operations Command responded to the scene.
