Freedom Division - Homicide in the 2400 block of Mulberry Pond Drive

Monday, February 25, 2019,

On October 27, 2018, Freedom Division patrol officers responded to an assist medic call for service in the 2400 block of Mulberry Pond Drive.  Upon arrival, officers located the victim, Deron Little, DOB: 06/17/1979, with injuries from an apparent assault.  Little was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.  Freedom Division detectives responded to the scene to investigate the assault. 

On February 15, 2019, Little was pronounced deceased by hospital staff from the injuries he sustained during the assault.  His family has been notified of his death.  Homicide Detectives were notified and took over the case.  

Information and evidence gathered by Homicide Detectives during the course of the investigation led them in identifying Rontravious Maurice Sanders, DOB: 04/21/1990 as the suspect in this case.  On February 25, 2019, the CMPD's TRAP Unit located Sanders without incident and transported him to police headquarters where he was interviewed and subsequently transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office. Sanders was charged with Voluntary Manslaughter.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.  As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.
