Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit is
conducting a traffic fatality investigation that occurred in the 8100 block of
Moores Chapel Road.
Wednesday December 4th, 2019 at 4:07 p.m., Freedom Division officers
responded to a personal injury crash on Moores Chapel Road at Old Mount Holly
Road. Upon arrival, officers located a 2003 Freightliner Tractor, a 2003
Infiniti G35, and a 2012 Mercedes Benz ML350 that were involved. Medic
pronounced the driver of the Infiniti deceased on scene. Detectives with
the Major Crash Investigation Unit, officers with the DWI Task Force, and Crime
Scene Investigators were called to the scene to conduct the investigation.
initial investigation has revealed that the Freightliner was traveling east on
Moores Chapel Road when the Infiniti made a left turn in front of the
Freightliner at the intersection of Old Mount Holly Rd. The Freightliner
was unable to stop and struck the driver’s side of the Infiniti pushing it into
the Mercedes Benz that was traveling west.
to yield right of way by the driver of the Infiniti appears to be the proximate
cause of the crash. Impairment is not suspected for any of the drivers
involved. Excessive speed is also not believed to be a factor. Both
surviving drivers were interviewed on scene, along with an independent
witness. At this time, no charges have been filed. The decedent’s
identification is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
