Homicide Investigation in the South Division


Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, September 9, 2021) – Following the conclusion of this investigation, the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office has consulted with CMPD's Homicide Unit and concurs with the detectives' decision not to charge anyone in this case.


Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, August 18, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation near the 3100 block of Frederick Place.   

Shortly after 7:15 p.m. on July 29, 2021, officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service on Frederick Place.  When they arrived, officers located a male victim with an apparent gunshot wound.  Medic transported the victim to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. On August 18, 2021, the hospital staff pronounced the victim deceased from injuries sustained in this incident.  The victim has been identified as Robert Lee Cline, DOB: 02/05/1967. His family has been notified of his death.

Homicide Unit detectives are working with South Division detectives to investigate this incident, which is now classified as a homicide.  Detectives have spoken with all parties involved and are not currently looking for any additional suspects.
