Fatal Vehicle Crash in the Providence Division

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the Providence Division.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, December 1, 2022) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the Providence Division.

 

On Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at approximately 5:40 a.m., Providence Division officers responded to a two-vehicle crash in the intersection of Providence Road and Fairview Road. Upon arrival, officers located a 2013 Subaru Impreza and a 2005 Mack Garbage Truck.  Charlotte Fire and Medic arrived on scene. Medic pronounced the victim, Michael Rasmussen (DOB: 01/06/1964), deceased. The victim's family has been notified of his death.


The CMPD's Major Crash Unit, Motor Unit and Crime Scene Search Unit were called to the scene to conduct an investigation.


The preliminary investigation indicates the 2013 Subaru was traveling north on Providence Road.  As the Subaru entered the intersection of Fairview Road, the garbage truck ran the red light as it was turning left onto Fairview Road and struck the Subaru head-on. 

 

The driver of the garbage truck, Alexander True (DOB: 11/06/1992), was arrested at the scene for Misdemeanor Death by Vehicle. Mr. True was transported to the CMPD Law Enforcement Center (LEC), where he was interviewed by detectives.  Upon completion of the interview, Mr. True was transported to the Mecklenburg County Intake Center.
