Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, November 30, 2022) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the Metro Division.

On Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at approximately 12:10 a.m., Metro Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash in the 1500 block of West Trade Street near Wesley Heights Way.  Upon arrival, officers located a 2010 Mazda 3 and its two injured occupants.  Both occupants had been ejected from the vehicle.  Medic arrived on scene and pronounced both occupants deceased on scene.

CMPD's Major Crash Investigation Unit detectives, the DWI Task Force and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to conduct an investigation.

The initial investigation indicates the driver of the Mazda 3 was traveling east on West Trade Street, when the driver lost control of the vehicle and ran off the right side of the road.  The Mazda rolled onto its right side and slid into a utility pole.  The impact of the collision tore the roof off the vehicle. The driver, Heliberta Ramirez Villanueva (DOB: 06/05/1998), and the right front passenger, Diana Segura Telles (DOB: 05/27/1993), were not restrained and were ejected from the vehicle.  The vehicle's front tire dug into the ground and flipped the vehicle upright.

At this time, impairment and speed are believed to be factors in this crash.  Toxicology results are pending.

The next of kin for both occupants have been notified of their deaths.

This is an ongoing and active investigation. As additional information develops, it will be released by CMPD's Public Affairs Office.  Any person who witnessed the crash or has information about this case is asked to call Detective Pressley at 704-432-2169, extension 2.  The public can also leave information anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600 or visit http://charlottecrimestoppers.com/.   The report number for this case is 20221129-0010-00.
