Fatal Vehicle Crash in the Independence Division

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash in the Independence Division.

On August 30, 2022, at approximately 2:42 p.m., officers with the Independence Division responded to the 5300 block of Providence Road in reference to a three-vehicle collision call for service.  Upon arrival, officers located a 2006 Subaru, a 2019 Ford Explorer, and a 2003 Honda Accord in the roadway.  The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene.


The results of the preliminary investigation show that the Ford Explorer had been traveling south on Providence Road when a 2006 Subaru Forester, made a U-turn in front of the Explorer.  The Explorer struck the rear of the Subaru and then crossed into on-coming traffic. Mrs. Mary Zamieroski (DOB 05/26/1938) was traveling north on Providence Road in a Honda Accord when the Ford Explorer crossed the center double yellow line and struck the Accord head-on.


On December 4, 2022, while in the hospital, Mrs. Zamieroski succumbed to her injuries sustained in this collision.
