On Saturday, September 3, 2022, at 12:36 a.m., Medic was driving along the 5400 block of Camp Stewart Rd. when they encountered a crash. Medic observed an unresponsive pedestrian and a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the roadway. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene by Medic at 12:38 a.m. The driver and passenger of the Jeep Grand Cherokee remained on scene. Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, officers with the DWI Task Force, the Medical Examiner's Office Investigator, and Crime Scene Search responded to investigate.

The initial investigation revealed that the Jeep, driven by Robert Austin Dull III, (DOB 09/15/1975), was traveling northwest on Camp Stewart Rd. when he struck a pedestrian with the right front passenger side of his vehicle.  The pedestrian appeared to be walking across the roadway in a very dark non-crosswalk area and was in the Jeep's lane of travel.  The driver of the Jeep, Robert Dull III, was screened for impairment by a DWI Task Force officer and was determined not to be impaired. Excessive speed does not appear to be a contributing factor in this crash. Impairment of the pedestrian is unknown and toxicology results are pending.

The victim in this case, a light-skinned male possibly in his 40s with short dark hair and a beard, has not been identified. The CMPD Missing Persons Unit has also been notified of the incident.
