On Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at approximately 7:16 p.m., Providence Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries in the 4700 block of Monroe Road.  Upon arrival, officers located a damaged 2011 Cadillac SRX and a pedestrian in the roadway.  Medic responded and transported the pedestrian to Atrium Main with life-threatening injuries.  On November 11, 2022, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased as a result of his injuries sustained in the crash.  The Major Crash Investigations Unit was notified of the death by the Medical Examiner's Office after they were notified by Atrium.

The deceased pedestrian has been identified as Habteselasse Wolde (DOB: 01/01/1966).  Mr. Wolde's next of kin has been notified of his death.

The initial investigation indicates Mr. Wolde was walking across Monroe Road and stepped in front of the Cadillac.  The vehicle was traveling south on Monroe Road in the right lane. The crash did not occur in a marked crosswalk or intersection.

The Cadillac was driven by Brandon Scott Caldwell Jr. (DOB: 06/15/1998).  At this time, it does not appear that speed or impairment were factors in the crash.
