Fatal Motorcycle Crash in the North Tryon Division

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash in the North Tryon Division.

On October 2, 2022, at approximately 4:43 a.m., officers in the North Tryon Division responded to the 5700 block of North Tryon Street in reference to a single-vehicle collision call for service. Upon arrival, officers located a damaged 2008 Kawasaki ZX1400C motorcycle and its rider, Satchel Phillip Bass (DOB 02/05/1987). Bass was pronounced deceased on scene by MEDIC. The CMPD Major Crash Unit, DWI Task Force, and Crime Scene Search responded to conduct the investigation. Members of the Charlotte Fire Department also responded to the scene.

The preliminary investigation showed that the victim was traveling north on N. Tryon St. at a high rate of speed when he ran off the right side of the road and crashed in a nearby parking lot. Excessive speed is a contributing factor in this collision. Impairment is unknown. There were no other vehicles involved. The victim's next of kin has been notified of his death.
