Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, September 6, 2021) - Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit are conducting an investigation into a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred in the 6400 block of Idlewild Road.
On Sunday, September 5th, 2021, at approximately 8:21 p.m., Independence Division officers responded to the 6400 block of Idlewild Road in reference to a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, officers located a 2017 GMC Sierra with front end damage and a 2009 Cadillac DTS with damage to the passenger side. The front seat passenger of the Cadillac, Frances Mobley, DOB: 09/26/1942 was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced deceased by the hospital staff from the injuries that she had sustained. All occupants of the GMC and Cadillac went to local area hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries. Mobley's family has been notified of her death.
The CMPD Major Crash Unit has been assigned to investigate this crash. The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the Cadillac was driving east on Idlewild Road and was attempting to make a left hand turn on the E Independence Expressway on-ramp, when he turned into the path of the 2017 GMC Sierra that was traveling west and in the right lane. Speed does not appear to be a factor for either party. The driver of the Cadillac was screened for impairment by alcohol and was found not to be impaired.
The investigation into this collision is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by CMPD's Public Affairs Office. Anyone who witnessed or has information about the crash should contact Detective Buckley at 704-432-2169, extension 6.
