On Thursday, April 22, 2021, at approximately 8:23 p.m., Freedom division officers responded to the 6300 block of Rozzelles Ferry Road in reference to a vehicle collision call for service. Upon arrival, officers located a white 2018 Chevrolet Impala and a grey 2000 Nissan Frontier in the roadway. The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as Spurlock, was transported by Medic with life-threatening injuries. Mark Brown, DOB: 10/31/1961, was identified as the driver of the Nissan and was also transported by Medic to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The Major Crash Investigation Unit has taken over the investigation of this case. The results of the investigation show that the Chevrolet was traveling west on Rozzelles Ferry Road and crossed the center double yellow dividing line subsequently striking the Nissan head-on. Both vehicles rotated off of each other and came to a final resting position within the roadway. During the investigation, it was found that Spurlock was operating the Chevrolet while impaired. Spurlock was also operating the vehicle in a careless and reckless manner. Speed and impairment are contributing factors in this crash for Spurlock and there were no contributing factors for Brown. Neither Spurlock nor Brown was wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
