Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision in the Hickory Grove Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, October 14, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit are conducting a fatal motor vehicle collision in the Hickory Grove Division.

On Friday, September 10, 2021, at approximately 9:10 p.m., officers in the Hickory Grove Division responded to the 7800 block of E. WT Harris Blvd. for a crash involving a sport utility vehicle versus a motorcycle.  Upon arrival, officers located a damaged 2004 Harley Davidson Motorcycle in the roadway along with its rider.  The rider of the motorcycle, identified as George Roland Martin, DOB: 07/19/1966, was ejected from the motorcycle because of the collision.  Medic responded to the scene and transported Martin to Atrium Health Main with life-threatening injuries.  The other vehicle, a 2000 Ford Explorer, and its driver, identified as Milan Xavier Wallace, DOB: 07/08/1996, remained on scene with no injuries reported.  There were no other passengers for either vehicle involved in this accident.

The initial investigation has revealed that Martin was traveling south on E. WT Harris Blvd. in the left lane.  Wallace was attempting to turn left onto E. WT Harris Blvd. from Delta Crossing Lane to go northbound.  Wallace began to turn left onto E. WT Harris Blvd. and drove into the path of the Harley Davidson.  The front of the Harley Davidson motorcycle struck the left side of the Ford Explorer.  The collision caused the Ford Explorer to rotate left and come to a final rest in the northbound lanes of E. WT Harris Blvd.

On September 11, 2021, Martin was pronounced deceased due to the injuries he sustained in the crash.  His family has been notified of his death.

After a follow-up investigation, detectives with the CMPD Major Crash Unit have obtained an arrest warrant for Misdemeanor Death by Vehicle for Wallace. He will also be issued a citation for Unsafe Movement following his arrest.  Impairment is not suspected for either driver, but test results are pending for Martin. There are no known witnesses to the crash.
