Charlotte, N.C. (Friday, November 5, 2021) - Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred in the 3900 block of North Tryon Street.
On Friday, November 5, 2021, at approximately 3:06 a.m., officers from the North Tryon Division responded to the 3900 block of North Tryon Street in reference to a single-vehicle collision. Upon arrival, they located a black 2017 Audi A6 in the roadway with severe damage. In a grassy area to the vehicle's right, they found the driver of the Audi, later identified as Dameon St. John, DOB: 03/09/1978. Medic pronounced St. John deceased on scene due to injuries sustained in the collision. His family has been notified of his death.
CMPD's Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force and Crime Scene Search responded to conduct the investigation. The initial investigation indicates that St. John lost control of the Audi as he was traveling at a high rate of speed on North Tryon Street. The Audi went off the road to the right and collided with several metal poles, two utility poles, and a tree. The Audi also collided with several parked vehicles that were parked in a parking lot before coming to final rest. St. John was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and was ejected from the Audi. Excessive speed is a factor for the crash. Impairment is suspected and toxicology results are pending.
