Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, August 6, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit are conducting an investigation into a fatal motor vehicle collision which occurred near the intersection of Providence Road and Raintree Lane in the South Division.
Shortly after 7:05 p.m. on August 5, 2021, officers responded to reports of a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Providence Road and Raintree Lane. When they arrived, officers located a Harley Davidson motorcycle and a Mazda 3 Touring which had been involved in the collision. The operator of the motorcycle, Anthony Toineeta, DOB: 02/05/1999, was pronounced deceased on scene by MEDIC. His family has been notified of his death.
The CMPD's Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force and Crime Scene Search responded to conduct the investigation and collect physical evidence. Their preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the Mazda was making a left turn from Raintree Lane onto northbound Providence Road and pulled into the path of the motorcyclist travelling southbound on Providence road, causing the collision.
The driver of the Mazda's failure to yield the right of way was found to be a contributing factor to this crash. This juvenile driver was charged for misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and cited for failure to yield the right of way. Due to his age, the juvenile's identity will not be released.
The investigation into this collision is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office.
