Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, October 30, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit conducted an overnight investigation into a fatal crash that occurred on Mount Holly Road near the county line.
Shortly before 1:20 a.m. on October 30, 2021, officers responded to reports of a serious-injury crash near the 12000 block of Mount Holly Road in the North Division. When they arrived, they located a 1997 Honda Accord and a 2016 Honda HR-V which both had heavy, front-end damage caused by the crash. MEDIC transported both drivers to the hospital where Gary Curtis Holloman, DOB: 06/23/1969, the driver of the Honda Accord, was pronounced deceased. His family has been notified of his death. The driver of the Honda HR-V sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and there were no other occupants inside either vehicle.
Detectives with the CMPD's Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to conduct an investigation. Their preliminary investigation indicates the Honda Accord was travelling westbound on Mount Holly Road when he lost control of his vehicle and crossed into oncoming traffic, striking the Honda HR-V head-on in the right lane of eastbound Mount Holly Road. The driver of the Honda Accord was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the collision. The driver of the Honda HR-V was screened and found not to be impaired; however, it is unknown if impairment is a contributing factor for the driver of the Honda Accord.
The investigation into this collision is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by CMPD's Public Affairs Office.
